In January 2005, Sony announced plans for the creation of software that allows for watching television broadcasts via WiFi which will be released for both the PSP and Sony's portable television sets. Sony plans to add the functionality to PSP in the first half of 2005.

The PSP is to be released in Europe on the 1st of September, five months after Sony's original estimate (March). This was due to high demand for the system in other territories—namely the North America and Japan. Like the American launch, the Value Pack will be the only available package type, retailing for £179 or EUR249. An undisclosed number of users (on a \"first come, first served\" basis) will receive a free Spider-Man 2 Video UMD after registering their systems on SCEE's Your PSP (
