A relaxing and contemplative ending theme by Rika Muranaka, named The Best is Yet To Come, covers the game\'s end-credits sequence. Its Gaelic vocals afford the player a chance to relax upon completion, and consider the events which have just taken place. An alternate ending theme, which is heard when the player beats the game three times, was written by Policenauts composer TAPPY. This theme was previously featured in the game\'s trailers, and also set the style for later Metal Gear games.

In addition, erratic policymaking, a series of natural disasters, and the collapse of the Soviet bloc have all caused the economy to stagnate. The agricultural outlook is terrible and food products are deliberately diverted away from citizens and into the military. The combined effects of a reclusive regime, serious fertilizer shortages, successive natural disasters, and structural constraints - such as little arable land and a short growing season - have reduced staple grain output to more than 1 million tons less than what the country needs to meet even minimum international requirements.

The game has also increased US awareness of such companies as Aston Martin, Ruf, Venturi (automobile), and Alfa Romeo.
